Leading at IU13

On June 18th and 19th, I attended the IU13 Leading the Learning for the Net Generation conference. A recurring theme throughout the conference was that it was not a technology conference, but a focus on the needs of the students of today!

Keynote Speakers

• Alan November - Creating a New Culture of Teaching and Learning
  
  -Kristen Hokanson opened a Cover It Live for participants to collaborate during this keynote. This collaborative effort shares notes and links from the presentation, as well as a discussion of the presentation.
  
  
• Doug Johnson - The Technology Skills Every Student Needs
  
  -Kristen also did a CoverItLive for this session.

Sessions attended

• iLife '09 - Digital Multimedia for Education! - An update on the latest upgrade of iLife.
• Technology and the English Language Learner - Innovative ways to use technology to engage the ELL population. This had so many examples and ways to create projects for students to use for new students to the districts.
• Students as Authors: Blogging in the Classroom - Jen Dorman's expertise on student blogging.
• Students as Contributors: The Digital Learning Farm - Six student jobs in the shift of control from the teacher to the students.
• Designing Rigorous and Motivating Assignments - Tools that every teacher (sometimes students) should have in order to create these types of assignments.

Session presented

• Moodle: Beyond Parking Resources to Driving Student Collaboration (log in as guest) - A deeper look into Moodle, especially the forum, glossary, and wiki.
